RTL and Vodafone finish collaboration in Sizz

RTL Ventures and Vodafone have decided to end the current partnership with regard to Sizz. Vodafone will be acquiring RTL’s share in the Sizz customer base and will no longer connect new customers as of 1 June 2014. For existing customers nothing will change.

Bart Hofker, Director Consumer Business Unit, Vodafone Netherlands, “The purpose of Sizz was to familiarize a specific target group with smartphones by offering ‘how to’ videos and exclusive RTL content. In this we have been successful. In the past three years a lot has changed. Almost 75% of the Dutch population, all ages, male and female, now uses a smartphone.”

Nicolas Eglau, director RTL Ventures, “The partnership with Vodafone fitted our goal to engage in new activities in relevant consumer markets. Mobile telephony was such a market. Our objective was to enrich the mobile environment with ‘video from one’s pocket’. This goal has been reached successfully and Sizz has done pioneering work in a market that has developed at incredible speed.”

Eglau continues, “Our collaboration with Vodafone has always been very pleasant and we have gained many new insights. But as in any other venture, we always keep our options open to sell the activity, should the opportunity arise. For Sizz, the timing seems right for an exit scenario.”

Hofker concludes, “We will contact the Sizz customers with a new offer before the end of their contract. Their current Sizz subscription cannot be renewed. Until that time, they can of course keep watching the RTL content through the usual Sizz platforms.”
