Today, 5 June 2018, Travelbags and RTL Ventures will announce that they have entered into an investment agreement. RTL will take a minority stake in the online store offering suitcases and travel bags.
In a niche market with a fragmented offering, Travelbags has earned itself a powerful position thanks to its wide product offering and multichannel approach that encompasses both physical stores and online sales. The company has now grown to become one of the largest online suitcase and travel bag specialists in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Gerjan Horstra, Travelbags owner, on the company’s ambitions and the partnership with RTL: “People are travelling more than ever before, which is creating increased demand for suitcases, travel bags and accessories. Our aim is to continue our growth in the Netherlands and Belgium and to roll out Travelbags in the surrounding countries. We came into contact with RTL in 2016 and noticed immediately that TV is a powerful medium for reaching large numbers of people. This has contributed to a significant increase in our name recognition and direct and indirect sales.”
Vincent Pieterson, Investment Director at RTL: “Travelbags launched a billboarding campaign with RTL in 2016. The start of this year saw our partnership develop even further. Together with our creative unit a successful campaign was devised based around the reality show Expeditie Robinson. We are now intensifying our partnership in order to further increase Travelbags’ name recognition among the general public. By identifying links with our fashion, lifestyle and travel brands, we intend to give the company’s growth an additional boost. We will also be deploying our network within the Group to assist the company with its further international roll-out.”
Travelbags.nl is the online store for suitcases and bags and also has physical stores in Groningen, Hardenberg and Zwolle. Travelbags offers a wide choice of suitcases and bags, featuring more than 15,000 items from 135 leading brands. Travelbags is currently active online in the Netherlands and Belgium.
